The Hancock Thanksgiving Basketball Classic tips off Monday with five local teams in action over the three day duration of the event.
Both Picayune’s boys and girls as well as the host school’s girls and boys teams will play a game each day in the tourney, while Pearl River Central’s girls will be in action on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Maroon Tide is unbeaten on the young campaign, posting a 6-0 mark after beating county rival Poplarville Thursday night 60-29.
Shemar Williams had 17 points and 12 rebounds to pace Picayune, while Eric Peyton added 10 and Sullivan Bell had nine points and nine rebounds. Donovan Rice added 10 points and three assists to the winning cause.
Rojaie Raine led the Hornets with 11 points. Poplarville dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
The Lady Hornets beat the Lady Tide 62-32. Poplarville jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a trio of 3-pointers by Tykeah Hart. Hart paced Poplarville with 23 points, while Sheena Travis added nine points. The Lady Hornets are 2-2.
Jada Simmons scored 19 points for Picayune, while Maya Whitehead added nine. The Lady Tide is 0-6.
The Pearl River Central boys moved to 4-1 on the season with a 69-62 win over visiting Stone Thursday night. Dennan Seal tallied a game high 28 points and dished out eight assists to led the Blue Devils, while Ashton Woodson added 19 points and 12 rebounds to the winning cause, and Seth McCoy chipped in 12 points. Walker Roberts pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.
The Blue Devils were coming off a 98-42 win over Lumberton earlier in the week, a game in which Seal and Woodson combined for 80 points as Seal poured in a career high 43 points and Woodson tallied 37 points. Seal also handed out eight assists, while Woodson and Roberts hauled down 16 rebounds each.
The Blue Devils are slated to host Vancleave this afternoon.
The Lady Devils lost to Stone 53-46, dropping to 1-3 on the season. The PRC girls were coming off their first win of the year, 70-57 over Lumberton Tuesday night. The Lady Devils host Vancleave today at Noon.
On Monday in the Hancock Tournament, the Lady Tide takes on the Lady Hawks at 5:30 and the Maroon Tide and Hawks meet at 7 p.m.
The Picayune girls meet Long beach at 1 Tuesday afternoon, and the Maroon Tide faces Tylertown at 4. Following that, the PRC girls take on Hancock at 5:30 and the Hawks face Salmen at 7.
On Wednesday, the Lady Devils face Chapelle at 11:30 a.m., and the Picayune boys face Salmen at 1 followed by the Lady Tide and Pass Christian at

Season ends for Maroon Tide
The season came to an end for the Picayune baseball team Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to homestanding Pascagoula here at Ingalls Field in the third and deciding game of the Class 5A South State championship series.

The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Pearl River Central Blue Devils both competed in the Class 5A South State track and field championships this past Saturday at Long Beach High School.

But, four games into the Class 5A South State playoffs. the Maroon Tide is unbeaten. -
Lady Hornets beat North Pike
Poplarville is moving on to the Class 4A South State finals.
The Lady Hornets swept the best-of-three semifinal series with North Pike, completing the affair with a 2-0 road win Monday night. -
