JACKSON — As has become an annual event, Picayune was well represented on the 2009 Class 5A All-State Football Team as chosen by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
The Maroon Tide placed three players on the first team and another four players on the second team.
Picayune standout running back Jamal Hall was chosen for the first team, and guard Robbie Bender was picked for the first team as well.
On defense, tackle Joel Davis was a first team selection.
Hall and Davis are juniors and will return next season, while Bender wrapped up his career with the honor.
Also, tight end Malcolm Faciane was selected to the second team offense as was linebacker Jarrod Jones, safety Wayne McMooain and cornerback Jonathan Moore, 6-0 on defense.
Faciane is a junior, while the trio on defense are all seniors.
Wayne County quarterback DeMarcus Henderson was named offensive MVP in Class 5A, and overall MVP in Region 3-5A
• Picayune dominated the All Region 3-5A team as well.
Hall was named the Most Valuable Offensive player.
In addition, Faciane, Bender and tackle Brandon Lee were named to the All-MVP Team on offense.
Also, Davis, Jones, McMooain and Moore were named to the All-MVP defensive team.
For Picayune, quarterback Jacob Kennedy, tackle D’Ambry Jackson, guard Jamison Dodd, center Kresean Bowen, defensive end Maurice Jones, linebacker Troy Egana and defensive tackle Ricky Hawkins were named to the All-Division team.
For Pearl River Central, defensive lineman Randy McDonald was named to the All-Division team.
Also for PRC, wide receiver Garrett Penton, offensive lineman Nicky Thigpen, running back Bryce Spence and offensive lineman Layton Spiers were named to the honorable mention list.
And, for Picayune, wingback Chris Burton, defensive end Chase Tretbar, cornerback Eric Smith, defensive end Derrione Stewart, safety Deronte Magee and safety Terrance McCann were named to the honorable mention list.

Picayune takes second in boys & girls Region 4-5A meet
The Picayune Maroon Tide track and field team placed second in the team standings of the boys’ and girls’ divisions this past weekend at the Region 4-5A championship meet held in Long Beach. The Lady Maroon Tide tallied 132 points to Long Beach’s 136 while the boys racked up 97 points to Gautier’s 108.
