PICAYUNE —
Pearl River Central moved in the Class 5A South State baseball playoffs with a big 13-8 win over homestanding Brookhaven Saturday.
The Blue Devils scored six runs in the sixth inning to take the win. Dylan Spiers picked up the win in relief of Chance Putnam.
Jordan Gaude had two hits including a two run triple in the win, while Trey Wynn had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Blue Devils dropped a 6-5 decision Friday night forcing Saturday's third game. PRC now moves on to face Pascagoula next week.
Lady Devils win
The Pearl River Central Lady Devils swept West Harrison in the fast-pitch softball Class 5A South State quarterfinals.
PRC won 4-0 on Saturday, as Hailee Buras got the win. Krista Davis had two hits and drove in three runs.
On Friday, the Lady Devils beat WHHS 3-2 in eight innings. Emily Kennedy got the win, and Shelby Lott had an RBI double while Bethani Skipper drove in the game winning run.
The Lady Devils will play tow time defending state champion Wayne County next.
Lady Tide falls
Picayune dropped a 12-3 decision to visiting West Jones in the third and final game of their Class 5A South State quarterfinal series Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tide lost 6-3 Friday night before coming back to win Saturday's first game 1-0.
Lady Hornets roll
Poplarville advanced in the Class 4A South State fast pitch softball playoffs Saturday completing a sweep of Florence.
The Lady Hornets won 10-0 Friday night and then won 12-0 Saturday. Rachel Hickman picked up both wins against the over-matched Florence team, striking out 18 in the two wins. Poplarville will play Newton County in the next round.

Poplarville was swept in the class 4ASouth State quarterfinal baseball playoffs. The Hornets lost a pair of one run games to Richland, dropping a 5-4 decision Friday night to end the series.

Season ends for Maroon Tide
The season came to an end for the Picayune baseball team Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to homestanding Pascagoula here at Ingalls Field in the third and deciding game of the Class 5A South State championship series.

Picayune and Pascagoula will face off in a one game, winner take all
showdown today at 2 p.m., at Ingalls Field for the Class A South State
prep baseball championship and the right to play for the state title. -

Host Pearl River opened Region 23 Tournament play in dominating fashion here Thursday in Wildcat Stadium, demolishing top-seeded East Central 12-1 in eight innings and now faces second-seeded LSU-Eunice (La.) in Friday’s second round at 7 p.m.

The visiting Lady Hornets fell to Newton County 10-2 in game two of the best-of-three series. -

The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Pearl River Central Blue Devils both competed in the Class 5A South State track and field championships this past Saturday at Long Beach High School.

Picayune finished the regular season nine games under the break even mark.
But, four games into the Class 5A South State playoffs. the Maroon Tide is unbeaten. -
Lady Hornets beat North Pike
Poplarville is moving on to the Class 4A South State finals.
The Lady Hornets swept the best-of-three semifinal series with North Pike, completing the affair with a 2-0 road win Monday night. -

Picayune swept Pearl to advance in the Class 5A South State prep baseball playoffs over the weekend while Pearl River Central got swept by Stone County.
