LEAKESVILLE — Pop-larville swept a pair of Region 8-4A games from homestanding Greene County Tuesday night.
The Lady Hornets took another step towards securing the number two seed for the upcoming league tournament, with 52-42 win over the Lady Wildcats while the Hornets beat the Wildcats 54-49.
The Lady Hornets moved to 18-4 overall and 7-2 in league play, as Demi Beason led the way with 18 points and Jeronda Beason added 12.
Daquari Raine had 11 points and Bretta Hart added nine for Poplarville, which can wrap up the second seed and secure a state playoff berth with a win over league leading Pass Christian at home Friday night.
"We are playing pretty well, but we have to get ready for a big game Friday," veteran Poplarville head coach Annette Smith said. "We need to come up with a really good effort Friday."
The Lady Hornets were coming off a big win over Bay High last week, as the 40-26 win over the Lady Tigers moved them past Bay and into secod place in the standings. Raine tallied a game high 19 in that win.
The Hornets won their second division game of the year Tuesday night, as David Gilmore tallied a game high 17 points, Bryson Barnett added 15 and Jalen Raine 11 to the winning effort. Lattimore Pittman dished out 10 assists for the Hornets.
Poplarville is 2-9 in league play and 5-19 overall.
