Hatten is new head coach at Crestview High

CRESTVIEW, Fla. — It didn’t take former Pearl River Community College head coach Tim Hatten long to find a new job.

Hatten was named the new head football coach and Athletics Director at Crestview High here in the Florida Panhandle earlier in the week.

“He’s a great guy, he has a great resume and he had a great interview,” said Crestview assistant principal Dexter Day. “He’s been in only two places, each for more than eight years, and he should be a great fit here,”

Hatten finished a record-setting 11 year career at PRCC with a collective 80-30 record, leading the Wildcats to a NJCAA national championship in 2004 and four consecutive MACJC state championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 for the first time in school history. The Wildcats also played for the national title in 2006.

“It’s perfect timing for me, I am looking forward to a new challenge.” Hatten, who started the new job on Tuesday, said. “It’s a good fit for me, and an incredible opportunity.”

Hatten resigned just after last season when the Wildcats struggled to a 3-6 record.

Before his time at PRCC, he spent nine seasons as head football coach at Haines City (Fla.) High, where he posted a 75-29 record.

That success on both the prep and juco level is what made Hatten stand out among the 98 original applicants, which were dwindled down to 13, nine and then five. William Jones succeded Hatten at PRCC.

Hatten inherits a program that hasn’t won a district title since 2005 and is coming off back-to-back 4-6 campaigns under Kevin Pettis, who resigned five weeks ago after two weeks to become head football coach at Sebastian River High.
