A pair of Pearl River County rivals face off to end the regular season action on the hardwood tonight.
Pearl River Central hosts Poplarville in a pair of varsity games as each school prepares for their respective district tournaments that begin next week.
The teams are coming off different results entering tonight's games, as Poplarville split a pair of Division 8-4A games from homestanding Vancleave here Friday night, and visiting PRC was swept by Petal in two contests on Friday night as well.
The Hornets smashed the Bulldogs 82-45, to wrap up league play at 7-3. Anthony Martin had 16 points to pace Poplarville, while Alex Travis added 12 points, Nigel Wood had 11 points and Keith Dotson chipped in 10 points to the winning cause. Rojae Raine scored nine points.
The Poplarville boys are 11-11 overall.
The Lady Hornets dropped a 61-46 decision. Sheena Travis tallied 17 points to lead Poplarville while Shaneisha Hudderson added 12 points.
Travis had 16 points in a win over Greene County last week, which was the Lady Hornets only district win.
The PRC boys dropped a 58-49 decision to homestanding Petal Friday night. Ashton Woodson had 22 points and Walker Roberts chipped in 14 for the Blue Devils.
The Lady Devils lost to the Lady Panthers 55-35. Sabrina Miller paced PRC with 12 points, while Caroline Lumpkin added nine points and Jordan Cobello chipped in eight points. Jessica Powers had 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Poplarville and PRC split a pair of games earlier this season, with the Hornets taking a win and the Lady Devils beating the Lady Hornets for the first time in eight seasons.
On Saturday, Petal completed a clean sweep of south Pearl River County winning a pair of games from visiting Picayune.
The Panthers beat the Maroon Tide 78-66, Shemar Williams led Picayune with 24 points. The Lady Panthers beat the Lady Tide 64-52.
Both Picayune teams travel to Stone County tonight to end the regular season

Picayune’s magical playoff run came up just short of a spot in the state finals.
Homestanding Pascagoula, the defending Class 5A state champs, took a hard-fought 5-3 win over the Maroon Tidee in game three of the best of three South State finals here Saturday before a capacity crowd at Ingalls Field. -
Season ends for Maroon Tide
The season came to an end for the Picayune baseball team Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to homestanding Pascagoula here at Ingalls Field in the third and deciding game of the Class 5A South State championship series.

And it all comes down to this.
Picayune and Pascagoula will face off in a one game, winner take all
showdown today at 2 p.m., at Ingalls Field for the Class A South State
prep baseball championship and the right to play for the state title. -

Host Pearl River opened Region 23 Tournament play in dominating fashion here Thursday in Wildcat Stadium, demolishing top-seeded East Central 12-1 in eight innings and now faces second-seeded LSU-Eunice (La.) in Friday’s second round at 7 p.m.

The visiting Lady Hornets fell to Newton County 10-2 in game two of the best-of-three series. -

The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Pearl River Central Blue Devils both competed in the Class 5A South State track and field championships this past Saturday at Long Beach High School.

But, four games into the Class 5A South State playoffs. the Maroon Tide is unbeaten. -
Lady Hornets beat North Pike
Poplarville is moving on to the Class 4A South State finals.
