CARRIERE —
First year Pearl River Central head girls basketball coach Danielle DeWitt abruptly resigned Thursday afternoon.
Her resignation was accepted during a specially called meeting of the Pearl River County School Board Thursday night.
“Coach DeWitt voluntarily submitted her resignation to us and we have accepted it,” PRC School Superintendent Alan Lumpkin said. “We were pleased with the job she was doing, I thought she had done an outstanding job, but she is no longer the coach of our girls basketball team.”
Lumpkin said he could offer no further comments on personnel matters within the school.
DeWitt, a former player at Hancock whose maiden name was Necaise, came to PRC from Harrison Central High School where she was an assistant coach the past two seasons.
Before her time in Lyman, she was an assistant coach at Hancock for several seasons.
In her only season with the Lady Devils, she guided the team to a 12-11 record that included a 4-2 mark in Division 8-5A and a second place finish in that league in the regular season. Her final game was a loss at home to Petal Tuesday night.
The Lady Devils faced Petal on the road Friday night, and were guided by Lumpkin as well as assistant coach Kayla Inabinett.
Lumpkin is a former head boys basketball coach at PRC.
