Pearl River Community College split with Mississippi Delta in women’s and men’s MACJC non-division basketball action here Thursday with the Lady Wildcats falling 61-45, while the Wildcats picked up their 10th win of the season via a 62-50 victory.
PRCC’s women dropped to 4-6 overall, while its men improved to 10-1. MDCC’s women improved to 6-4, while its men are now 3-7.
On Nov. 12 in Shivers Gym in Poplarville, the Lady Wildcats were 59-55 losers to the Lady Trojans, while the Wildcats took a 71-57 victory.
In the women’s game, Delta led 33-23 at the intermission before outscoring Pearl River 28-22 in the second half to take the 16-point win.
Kalisha Washingtonn out of Murrah High in Jackson led PRCC with 10 points, while Lolecia Richardson out of Provine High in Jackson added eight.
The Lady Torjans had three hit in double figures led by Ashanti Spencer with a game-high 16 points, while Z’Hara Williams added 15, and Cedrica Cooper 13.
In the men’s game, Pearl River led 34-28 at the break then outscored the Trojans 28-22 in the second half to take the 12-point win.
Three Wildcats hit in double figures led by Jeremy Hollimon of Gulfport High with 24, while Xavian Rimmer, an Alcord State transfer who prepped at Piney Woods School near Jackson, added 13, and DeMondre Harvey of Minden (La.) High 11.
Anthony McDonald led Delta with 19 points, while Marquarius Boddie added nine.
Pearl River returns to action Monday when it travels to MACJC South Division rival Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston for games at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) before hosting division foe Southwest Mississippi Thursday, Jan. 17, in Shivers Gym for game at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men).

Season ends for Maroon Tide
Picayune’s magical playoff run came up just short of a spot in the state finals.
Homestanding Pascagoula, the defending Class 5A state champs, took a hard-fought 5-3 win over the Maroon Tidee in game three of the best of three South State finals here Saturday before a capacity crowd at Ingalls Field. -

The season came to an end for the Picayune baseball team Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to homestanding Pascagoula here at Ingalls Field in the third and deciding game of the Class 5A South State championship series.

showdown today at 2 p.m., at Ingalls Field for the Class A South State
prep baseball championship and the right to play for the state title. -
Wildcats tring to win Region 23 title
Host Pearl River opened Region 23 Tournament play in dominating fashion here Thursday in Wildcat Stadium, demolishing top-seeded East Central 12-1 in eight innings and now faces second-seeded LSU-Eunice (La.) in Friday’s second round at 7 p.m.

Poplarville's season came to and end in the Class 4A South state finals Tuesday night.
The visiting Lady Hornets fell to Newton County 10-2 in game two of the best-of-three series. -

Two more wins, and Poplarville will be playing for the Class 4A state championship in fast-pitch softball.
The Lady Hornets have a chance at getting that first victory today. -
Polderman’s, Mitchell win titles
The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Pearl River Central Blue Devils both competed in the Class 5A South State track and field championships this past Saturday at Long Beach High School.

Picayune finished the regular season nine games under the break even mark.
But, four games into the Class 5A South State playoffs. the Maroon Tide is unbeaten. -
Lady Hornets beat North Pike
Poplarville is moving on to the Class 4A South State finals.
