World Day of Prayer service held March 1

PICAYUNE — The United Methodist Women of Picayune First United Methodist Church hosted their annual World Day of Prayer Service and Luncheon on Friday, March 1.

Men and women of several faiths attended, and were joined throughout the world by others who came together with the common purpose of observing the importance of prayer. The guest speaker, Robin Smith Moody, a former member of FUMC, gave her testimony by sharing her witness and through her music. Robin is a member of Barn Church of Poplarville.

She chose as the theme, scripture Lamentations 3:22: "Great is His faithfulness; His loving kindness begins afresh each day." Robin stressed the importance of spending quiet time with the Lord, praying, and journaling. Through looking back through her prayer journal, she stated, "I see His love and mercy, and that he has been faithful." She shared how God strengthened and comforted her through several physically painful injuries as she continued to pray and trust in Him. Robin closed by singing “He’s Been Faithful” by Carol Cymbala.

Other participants in the service included Wilodean Porter, UMW President; Linda Gerber and Ruth Mitchell, Greeters; Betty Breland, Church Organist; Patsy Hallberg, Flautist; Katie Beech and Summer Tatom, Acolytes; and Linda Hancock, Church Choir Director; all of FUMC. Margo Porter, Vice President of UMW Seashore District, and member of Weems Chapel UMC, read the scripture, Lamentations 3:22-26.

After the Reverend Megan Becnel of Trinity UMC gave the benediction and blessing, the traditional soup and salad luncheon was enjoyed in the church Fellowship Hall.
