Alvira “Dora” Gilbert went to eternal rest on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the age of 96 in Carriere, Miss.
Beloved wife of the late Price T. Gilbert and mother of Thomas Gilbert, Sr. (wife Suzanne), Alice G. Tresch (husband Edward), and Rose G. Bienvenu (husband Allen,Sr.). She was the grandmother of Michele Cimino (husband Anthony), Evelyn Haller, Allen Bienvenu, Jr. (wife Patricia), Thomas Gilbert, Jr. (wife Dawn), Dora Kennedy (husband Billy), Kevin Gilbert, Kenneth Tresch, Sr. (wife Kim), and Tammy Gilbert. She was the sister-in-law to Emma Clavier.
She is survived by: 18 adoring great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Peter and Mary Lane Clavier; her siblings, Antoinette DeSilva, Ernestine Reeg, Pauline Kastner, Marie Clavier, Lena Barry, Edward Clavier and Charles Clavier; granddaughter Donna Tresch; and sister-in-law Bena Kaufmann.
She was a life-long resident of New Orleans and relocated to Carriere after Hurricane Katrina. She founded, with her late husband, Gilbert’s Food Products, Inc. which remained family owned and operated for more than 65 years.
Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, La. at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012.
Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
