Megan T. Schrock

PICAYUNE — Mrs. Megan T. Schrock passed away Friday, January 29, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Miss. She was 59.

Born in Vicksburg, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Robert Davis Thornton Jr. and Jacqueline Ellis Thornton. She was a graduate of H.V. Cooper High School and attended Belhaven College. Mrs. Schrock was active in numerous civic organizations and community services.

She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the Council on Ministries and was active in the Shepherding Ministries and in youth programs, including teaching Sunday school.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert Davis Thornton Sr. and Bessie Smith Thornton.

She is survived by: her husband, Dr. Kurt R. Schrock of Vicksburg; one son, Dr. Benjamin L. Schrock (Erica) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Kay T. Adams (Bobby) of Brandon, Miss. and Mona T. Lairscey (Royce) of Conroe, Texas; one brother, Robert M. “Rocky” Thornton of Grenada, Miss.; several nieces and nephews; an aunt and an uncle, and mother and father-in-Law, Dr. and Mrs. James L. Schrock of Picayune.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cary Stockett and the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at Riles Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the church.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to a favorite charity.

Pallbearers will be: Bob Moss, David Leese, Dr. Al Windham, Dave Bridgers, Joe Battalio, Bill Fenwick, Dr. Hal M. Schrock and Dr. David Bridgers.
