Marvin P. Dossett

SHREVEPORT, La. — Marvin P. Dossett, 76, passed away, Friday, February, 8, 2013. Arrangements are being handled by Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave., Shreveport, La., where the family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2013. A private graveside service will be Saturday, February 16, 2013.

Mr. Dossett was born November 12, 1936, to Mattie Kennedy and Francis Prentiss Dossett in Picayune, Miss., where he spent his early life. He attended Pearl River Community College, Ole Miss, and graduated from Louisiana State University/Shreveport. He attended the School of Medical Technology at Confederate Memorial Medical Center (now LSU Health) and began his working life there. He worked in various laboratories, and was a faculty member at the school and retired as Supervisor of Transfusion Services. In 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ursula Herrin. Their life together was truly blessed.

Along with his wife, left to cherish his memory are: son Paige (wife Tracy Byrd; children, Amity and Braxton); daughter Ursula (husband, Joe Johnson; children, Zackary); son Quinn (wife Tracy Harper); son Lane.

He had many interests in his life. He was involved and owned various businesses including vending services, a bowling alley, medical supply company and welding services. Friends and family will remember him as a willing volunteer and active member of the Masonic Order and El Karubah Shriners. He served several terms as president of the CMMC Credit Union and Investment Club. He was a private pilot and enjoyed piloting his plane on many adventuresome trips with his wife as co-pilot. He indulged his wife’s love of travel with laughter and good humor to Europe and Asia, as well as North, South, and Central America. His fondest memories were the many family trips across the U.S. He had a tremendous grasp of trivia and minutia with which he continuously wowed his children during these times. Of all his talents, his ability to deeply love and nourish those around him is the one most remembered. He lives on in the hearts of us all. Love is Forever.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Shriner’s or St. Jude’s Children Hospitals, which were his favorite two charities.

Please leave your words of encouragement for the family at www.forestparkfh.com.
