O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endureth forever.—Psalms 106:1 Services for Martha Ree Williams, 69, of Picayune will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Rose of Sharon Church of God In Christ. The Reverend Louis Thomas will officiate. Elder David Simmons is Pastor. Martha Ree Magee Williams was born September 30, 1942 in Tylertown, Miss., to the late Oliver and Oradee Magee. Martha Ree confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend E.L. Fox. She later joined Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Louis Thomas, Sr. She attended George Washington Carver High School of Picayune. She continued her education at Mae’s Beauty College in Bogalusa, La.; and became a Mississippi State Board Certified Beautician in 1978. Martha united in Holy Matrimony to Handy Gilmore; to this union five children were born. They remained united until his death on August 3, 1971. On January 14, 1978, she was united in Holy matrimony to Hilton L. Williams, Sr. and remained faithful until her departure. She was a Homemaker and formerly owned Martha Ree’s Beauty Salon on Greenview Drive where she specialized in old-fashioned pressing comb and the best Gerry Curls in town. She also formerly worked in various factories, such as The Blanket Factory (Neco), General Box, Stuffed Shirt, and Ramallah, Inc. Martha Ree departed her earthly existence for her eternal home on Monday, December 12, 2011 at Highland Community Hospital in Picayune after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Oliver and Oradee Magee; her first husband, Handy Gilmore; one son, Handy Burnell Gilmore; her identical twin sister, Dessie Ree Stubbs; one brother, Oliver Wendell Magee, Jr.; and one son-in-law, Reginald Smith. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her devoted husband, Hilton L. Williams, Sr.; six daughters, Kimberly R. Gilmore, Desma S. (Benjamin) Carter, Camille L. Gilmore, Drester L. Smith, Rolanda A. Gilmore, and Michelle D. (Brent) Gray, of Picayune; two step-sons, Hilton L. Williams, Jr., of Dallas, Texas and Jamie Robinson of Catahoula Community; two sisters, Evelyn A. (Paul) Burkett of Catahoula Community, Picayune, and Angela Pittman of Picayune; one brother, Tommy Spiers of Picayune; one brother-in-law, Burnis (Jessie Mae) Gilmore of Heidelburg, Miss.; two aunts, Mary Alice Posey of Tylertown and Hazel Brown of Catahoula Community; one god-daughter, Secundra Ducre of Picayune; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Picayune Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
