PICAYUNE — “Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world…” St. John 8:12

Mrs. Rose McGill-Grays was born November 3, 1958 in Picayune, Miss., to the late Deacon Eugene McGill and the late Mrs. Lillie Rhone McGill. At an early age, she united with the East Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Hart and later joined the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder David Simmons. She was a graduate of Picayune Memorial High School and attended Pearl River Community College and pursued the area of Secretarial Science. Her previous employers included: Best Western in Slidell, La., Northshore Living Center in Slidell, and McCarty Learning Center in Picayune.

Rose united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Sylvester Grays and to this union four loving children. She was always a very loving and devoted wife, mother and friend.

On Thursday, October 4, 2012, God called her home.

She was preceded in death by: her mother, Mrs. Lillie McGill; her father, Deacon Eugene McGill; two sisters, Diane McGill and Cheryl Stewart; one brother, Leonard McGill; three nephews, Ricardo Cortez Rawls, Timothy Scott Glasper, and Paul Brumfield, Jr.; and one uncle, Hayward Rhone.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons, the Rev. Markeith McGill and T’Darryl Grays both of Picayune, Narada McGill of Poplarville, and Brandon Grays of McNeill, Miss.; also two step-daughters, Sheterria Grays of Picayune and Kayla Grays. She also leaves: two brothers, Charles (Barbara) McGill and Albert (Mary Alice) McGill; and eight sisters, Betty Mark, Ruby Jean Tyner, Linda McGill, Mary (Thomas) Blanks, Cynthia (Wayne) Bester and Belinda McGill all of Picayune, Daisy (Matthew) Evans of Houston, Texas, and Kathleen Rawls of Gulfport, Miss.; four brothers-in-law, Coundee (Judith) Grays and Willie Lee (Doris) Grays both of Detroit, Mich., Cornell (Carolyn) Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ike Stewart of Picayune; one sister-in-law, Mary Alice Grays-Braden; and nine grandchildren, Mahogany, Narada Jr., Charisma, Yolanda, Markell, Kinsley, Khloe, NaCabreyon and Narayana, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ. Elder David Simmons will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Picayune Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
