The Life of Early Bowens
Funeral services for Early Bowens, 91, a native of Kiln, Miss. will be Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Rose of Sharon C.O.G.I.C. at 11 a.m. Brother Mike Price is officiating. Elder David Simmons is pastor.
Early Bowens was born October 12, 1921 in Kiln, to the late Monroe Bowens and Olevia Baggett-Bowens. Attended school in Hancock County Schools. He later enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Clark with the 9th Calvary located in Texas. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1943 and relocated to Picayune, Miss.
On November 15, 1944. Early was united in Holy Matrimony to Ida Louise Gines; this union was blessed with nine beautiful children. In 1958 Early began working as an Automotive Mechanic for the U. S. Naval Construction in Gulfport, Miss., where he remained until his retirement. Early raised his family under the knowledge and admonition of God. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ under the former pastor, Brother Mike Price, until his health failed. Early Bowens was a very friendly, lovable person. He loved God and his family first and foremost. Then he would go out of his way to extend a helping hand to neighbors and anyone he encountered. He was very well known as the neighborhood lawnmower repairman. He enjoyed outdoors; and would often be found sitting on his carport on Greenview Drive greeting each person as they passed by.
On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, God dispatched his death angels to bring His servant home. Mr. Early Bowens ended his earthly walk to began his heavenly existence. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Monroe and Olevia Bowens; his brothers, Burley Bowens, Henry Bowens, and Rowan Bowens; his sisters, Roberta Burnett and Ovier Mae Lewis; one son, Eardis Leval Bowens; and one grandson, Rodney Romane Bowens.
Early leaves an extended legacy of loved ones to cherish beautiful memories: his devoted wife of 68 years, Ida Louise Bowens; children: Carl Abrams, of Wiggins, Miss., Luther Bowens, of Picayune, Earline Parker, of Carriere, Miss., Mae (Ray) Wilson, of Carriere, Maude (Marsella) Jones, of Picayune, Monroe (Emmie Brown) Bowens, of Picayune, Romalice (Allison) Bowens, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Gail Bowens (Floyd Davis Jr.), of Picayune; 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Wake Service will be Thursday, December 29, 2012 at Baylous Funeral Home. Viewing will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be in Picayune Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
