He later enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Clark with the 9th Calvary located in Texas. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1943 and relocated to Picayune, Miss.
On November 15, 1944. Early was united in Holy Matrimony to Ida Louise Gines; this union was blessed with nine beautiful children. In 1958 Early began working as an Automotive Mechanic for the U. S. Naval Construction in Gulfport, Miss., where he remained until his retirement. Early raised his family under the knowledge and admonition of God. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ under the former pastor, Brother Mike Price, until his health failed. Early Bowens was a very friendly, lovable person. He loved God and his family first and foremost. Then he would go out of his way to extend a helping hand to neighbors and anyone he encountered. On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, God dispatched his death angels to bring His servant home. Mr. Early Bowens ended his earthly walk to began his heavenly existence. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Monroe and Olevia Bowens; his brothers, Burley Bowens, Henry Bowens, and Rowan Bowens; his sisters, Roberta Burnett and Ovier Mae Lewis; one son, Eardis Leval Bowens; and one grandson, Rodney Romane Bowens.
