Hazel Jordan Burkett August 30, 1925-March 17, 2013) Hazel Jordan Burkett, a resident of Bogalusa, La., 87, born on August 30, 1925 in Bogalusa, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Pearl River County Nursing Home in Poplarville, Miss.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church; AARP; and American Legion Post #24 Auxillary. She retired from the Bogalusa Police Department; she was a member of the Municipal Police Officers Association; and the Louisiana Police Officers Association.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward D. Burkett, Sr.; one son, Edward D. Burkett, Jr.; and her parents, Johnny S. Jordan and Corrine Alsobrooks Jordan.
She is survived by: two daughters, Charlotte Burkett Hunt of New Orleans, La., and Kay B. Crowe of Poplarville; three sons, Johnny Burkett of Columbia, Miss., Tommy Burkett of Carriere, Miss., and Kim Burkett of Poplarville; two sisters, Delores Broulette of Georgia and Nell Carpinelli of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 9 a.m. until the Funeral Services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Phil Thigpen will officiate with interment to follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
