Guy Nell Smith, 81, of Picayune Miss., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013. He was born to the late Sidney and Kate Smith, September 12, 1931.
Guy Nell was preceded in death by: his precious wife, Alice Augusta Burge Smith.
Guy Nell is survived by three children: son Garland Clinton Smith and wife Jean, daughter Jo Ann Magruder and husband Randall, and Jerry Scott Smith and wife Ophelia. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Tommy Louise McClendon, Greta Fay Dearman, and Sarah Jane Kennedy.
In his youth, Guy Nell was a star basketball player in the small community of McNeill Miss. Guy Nell was a Korean Conflict veteran. He was a mathematics teacher and coached basketball and football. He was friendly, outgoing and well-liked by all who met him. He was deeply loved by all of his family and was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the church or charity of your choice.
Visitation on Monday, March 18, from 1-3 p.m. and memorial at 3 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines located on Stafford Road one mile east of South Picayune exit off I59.
