PICAYUNE —
Rain events over the past weekend and on Monday have caused many of the county’s rivers and creeks to flood, but the flooding is expected to be minor compared to last year’s flooding after Hurricane Isaac.
Pearl River County Emergency Management Director Danny Manley said there have been no reports of damage as a result of the recent storms. There were some reports of hail, and minor flooding, especially on Sycamore Road near West Union Road. Another piece of good news was no major accidents occurred during the extensive rain event, Manley said.
The east and west branches of the Hobolochitto Creek are flooded. The west branch crested at 17.5 feet on Monday, and by Tuesday afternoon began to fall below 16.5 feet. Flood stage for the west branch is 15 feet.
The east branch crested Tuesday at 16.5 feet, one and a half feet above flood stage, and is forecast to fall as the week progresses, according to predictions from the National Weather Service.
The Pearl River at Bogalusa was at 21.1 feet and the West Pearl River at Pearl River was at 17.2 feet on Tuesday, and the two streams are forecast by the National Weather Service office at Slidell, La., to stay at those levels through the rest of the week. Flood stage at Bogalusa is 18 feet and at Pearl River is 14 feet.

Deputies arrested a couple on various methamphetamine charges on Tuesday, May 14, following an investigation by Pearl River County Sheriff’s Dept. investigators and the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Deputies also made an arrest for cocaine that same day.
