The Picayune Item
PICAYUNE —
A woman has been charged with shoplifting twice this month, both times for clothing related items.
Earlier this month, on Feb. 1, 23-year-old Ashley Thorbjornsen was arrested for shoplifting and public drunk after a local business owner reported seeing her and an accomplice steal items from her clothing store, according to police reports. Officers investigated and found both suspects at an apartment building behind the store, Thorbjornsen was asleep in her vehicle that contained the stolen items. She and her accomplice were arrested and the stolen items returned to the business owner, according to the report.
On Saturday, Picayune police officers were called out to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting incident, later determined to involve Thorbjornsen, said Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri.
When officers arrived just before 6 p.m., they spoke to a loss prevention employee of the large retailer and were informed that the employee observed Thorbjornsen put a number of clothing items into her personal bag, including bras, a camisole, panties and socks, before heading for the front door without paying for the items, Magri said. The items totaled about $159, the report states.
The officer spoke with her and noticed she appeared to be intoxicated on some kind of substance, leading to her being charged with public drunk in addition to shoplifting second offense, Magri said.
