A Picayune man has been charged with stealing pens from the Slidell, La. office of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department.
According to a release from the department, 33-year-old Edward Alan Lucas of 504 Cedar Grove Ave., was at the Slidell office of the Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 19, to obtain a copy of a police report.
As the clerks were getting the file for Lucas they observed him acting suspiciously as he walked up and down the front area of the records division, the release states. Lucas left the building and the clerks checked the area where Lucas was had been pacing, finding that three pens formerly attached to the counter with metal chains were missing.
The release states review of surveillance footage appeared to show Lucas had detached the pens from their chains and put them in his pocket.
The next day deputies contacted Lucas and set up a meeting with him in which he was questioned about the stolen pens and which he admitted to stealing, the release states. Lucas was charged with misdemeanor theft and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on Nov. 20, the release states.
