HATTIESBURG —
District Attorney Jon Mark Weathers has resigned effective Oct. 1.
Weathers has been district attorney for Forrest and Perry counties for 7-1/2 years, succeeding Lindsay Carter.
Weathers says his decision to announce his resignation Tuesday was so Gov. Haley Barbour will have the opportunity to appoint someone to the office before the 2011 elections.
Weathers did not say if he would return to private legal practice.
