DVR brings about Millcreek One Stop burglary arrest

PICAYUNE — Two suspects have been charged with the burglary of the Millcreek One Stop that took place on Nov. 12.

The burglary was reported to have taken place sometime between the close of business that Thursday night and when the store reopened the next morning.

The suspects allegedly took cheap cigarettes, cheap lighters, paper towels to patch wounds suffered from a broken window used to gain access to the store and coffee filters.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said the department had concrete leads on a suspect after the store owner called the department on Sunday to report the DVR that was also stolen during the crime was found on the roadside. After plugging in the video recording device and finding it still worked, the store owner watched the recording and was able to identify the suspect as Billy Ray Briggs, 40, of 36 Briggs Lane.

Investigators went to the suspect’s home and charged him with commercial burglary. Saucier said Briggs had cuts on his body when he was taken into custody. A second suspect also was taken into custody, Debra Ann Kendricks, 42, also of 36 Briggs Lane. Investigation into her involvement has so far shown she was giving away the cigarettes taken from the store in the burglary. Saucier said she was charged with accessory to commercial burglary.

Additional forensic and physical evidence is being processed to determine if Kendricks was inside or at the store when the burglary occurred. Other charges may be pressed depending on the evidence.

No other items, other than the DVR, were recovered from the burglary.
