Longtime weathercaster dies at 92

JACKSON — Longtime Jackson television weathercaster Woodie Assaf has died at the age of 92.

Assaf died Friday afternoon. He worked for WLBT for most of five decades — starting with the station’s first day in 1953 and retiring in 2001.

In addition to his weathercasts, Assaf became a popular on-the-air personality and fundraiser for disaster relief and charities, such as the Easter Seal Telethon.
