By Jeremy Pittari — Members of the Picayune Police Department’s Senior Patrol have started looking for parking violations and are issuing warnings.
Senior Patrol Officers Bob Gieger and Dan Leonard said the patrol members will issue warnings, for now. Parking violations such as improper handicapped parking and fire lane parking will be a focus. They also will look for vehicles parked over the lines and any other parking violations.
After two warnings, violators will begin to receive citations for their parking indiscretions. Tag numbers and vehicle descriptions will be recorded along with the violation by the Senior Patrol officer and submitted to the Picayune Police Department. On the third offense, violators can expect to receive a citation, Leonard said.
Gieger said Police Chief Jim Luke approached him about the idea several weeks ago. Senior Patrol officers will look for parking violations as part of their regular patrols.
Violators will find a neon colored warning on their windshield that will list their vehicle’s tag number, along with the make and model and violation.
