PICAYUNE —
Wiggins Police officers discovered a man who is suspected of being involved in a number of burglaries in Pearl River County when they made a traffic stop.
On May 31, officers with the Wiggins Police Department pulled over 28-year-old Steven Regan of 103 Westchester Dr., and noticed his vehicle contained a lot of property in the back seat, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier.
Detective Scott Wagner was assigned the case and went to Wiggins to check out the situation. After assessing the scene, Wagner arrested Regan on two counts of residential burglary and one count of grand larceny, actions which sparked more investigation, Saucier said. Through interviews and continued investigation, officers determined that Regan may have been involved in two additional burglaries and another grand larceny, all of which occurred in Pearl River County, the chief investigator said.
Saucier said the investigation determined Regan had sold a number of items believed taken from homes in the county to pawn shops in Louisiana and Mississippi. While Regan was initially arrested on two counts of residential burglary and one count of grand larceny, Wagner’s investigation will allow the department to present the two additional residential burglaries and additional grand larceny charge to the grand jury, which will decide whether to indict him on the additional charges, Saucier said.
So far, about $3,800 worth of property has been recovered, both in the car at the time of Regan’s arrest and at various pawn shops, Saucier said.
