The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday charged a 31-year-old woman with the statutory rape of a 13-year-old boy.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier identifed the suspect as Kelly Faggard of 33 Pine Crest Rd., Purvis.

Investigation into the case began after Lumberton Line school officials overheard a conversation between the 13-year-old juvenile and other students, leading them to believe he had engaged in sexual intercourse with Faggard, Saucier said.

The juvenile’s parents were notified, and they questioned the boy about the alleged incident, the chief investigator said. Saucier said questioning by the parents determined the sexual intercourse took place at a Pearl River County residence, 62 Timberbluff Dr., Lumberton.

Investigation by the sheriff’s department determined the two had formed a relationship and that the sexual intercourse took place on or about July 9 of this year, about two months after the juvenile’s 13th birthday, Saucier said.

The two knew each because the juvenile was acquainted with a member of Faggard’s family, Saucier said. Saucier said the suspect was not employed by the school district.

Saucier said Faggard has been out on a $20,000 bond since Friday.
