FORT HOOD, Texas — Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Picayune soldier who recently died. According to a press release from Fort Hood Sgt. Irvin Albert Mitchell Jr., 25, died March 16, in Mandeville, La. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The release states Mitchell joined the military in January 2005 as an avionics mechanic and was assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, since November 2005. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from Nov. 2005 through Nov. 2006 and from June 2008 through June 2009. Mitchell has received a number of decorations and awards including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon, the release states.
