PICAYUNE —
A man was shot three times by his brother following a verbal dispute witnesses say was possibly about food and money.
Picayune Police Deputy Chief David Ervin said officers were sent to 215 Forest St., Apt. A Tuesday night at about 9:24 in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 23 year-old David Gutierrez laying on the floor with three gunshot wounds.
Ervin said Gutierrez was conscious, but was bleeding badly, so officers called for medical assistance and applied pressure to his wounds while waiting on the ambulance to arrive. Gutierrez was then taken to Highland Community Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his right upper thigh, left wrist and his abdomen under his left arm. The victim’s current condition is unknown, Ervin said.
Officers checked the scene of the shooting and found three shell casings and a chrome handgun on the bed of the room where Gutierrez was found.
Investigation into the incident and interviews with witnesses led investigators to believe that earlier that evening Gutierrez and his brother, 22 year-old Jose Gutierrez, had been arguing about food and money. At some point during the argument Jose Gutierrez allegedly shot his brother three times and then fled the scene.
After searching all night for Jose Gutierrez officers got a call Wednesday morning that a suspicious person was seen in the area of Central Avenue. Officers responded to the area and found Jose Gutierrez. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence, Ervin said.

Man charged with burglaries
A Picayune man is facing multiple burglary charges for allegedly stealing copper and other metal items from homes, businesses and a church.
Charged is 22-year-old Wyatte Mitchell of 206 W. Sycamore Rd., said Capt. Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department. -
STREET WORK
Motorists wanting to turn down Fifth Avenue at its intersection with U.S. Hwy. 11 are having to detour as the turn lane was blocked on Tuesday as city work crews repaired the street.
