Pearl River County’s unemployment rate dropped slightly between March and April of this year.
According to a release from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the county’s unemployment rate was 8.6 percent for the month of April. The unemployment rate in March of this year was 9 percent. In April of last year the unemployment rate in Pearl River County was 10.2 percent.
Statewide the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.7 percent, a slight drop from the previous month’s rate of 9 percent. A year ago in April the rate was 10.6 percent.
Nationwide the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was at 8.1 percent in April of this year. In March of this year the seasonally adjusted rate nationwide was 8.2 percent. That rate was slightly higher a year ago, at 9 percent.
Seasonally adjusted rates take into consideration patterns such as weather, holidays, school schedules and other regularly occurring events that contribute to employment rates. Only nationwide and statewide percentages are adjusted.
Unadjusted rates for Mississippi in April show the unemployment rate at 8.3 percent, a decrease from March’s rate of 8.7 percent. That rate a year ago in April was 10 percent.
Nationwide unadjusted unemployment rates were at 7.7 percent in April, also a drop from the month before of 8.4 percent. In April of last year the unadjusted unemployment rate was 8.7 percent.
