PICAYUNE — A one vehicle accident Sunday afternoon resulted in the death of a 27 year-old woman.
The accident happened at about 2:44 p.m. in the north bound lane of Interstate 59 at about the eight mile marker, Cpl. Johnny Poulos said.
The driver of the Isuzu Trooper left the right side of the road and overcorrected to get back on to the road, flipping the vehicle over several times. Poulos said the driver, Crystal Brasher, 27, of Moody, Ala., was ejected from the vehicle. She died on the scene.
Jerry Van Wagner, 38, of Bay St. Louis was the passenger. He was transported to Forrest General Hospital with severe injuries. Poulos said that as of Monday morning, Van Wagner was still in the hospital.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said an autopsy has been requested to determine Brasher’s cause of death. However, he said she suffered massive trauma during the accident. Turnage said he is concerned about factors going on inside the vehicle during the accident that caused the driver to leave the road on a clear day, and he is working to rule out foul play. He said he suspects drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
Poulos said the involvement of drugs and alcohol is under investigation.
