Appeals Court upholds felony DUI conviction

Jackson — The state Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of Krystal Marie Teston, a former Louisiana woman for causing an accident that left three Mississippi College students dead.

Prosecutors said Teston, a former resident of Slidell, La., was intoxicated on Lorcet, or hydrocodone, when she caused the 2004 accident on Interstate 10 in Biloxi.

Teston was sentenced in 2007 in Harrison County to a total of 60 years with 30 years suspended.

Killed were Lindsay Miller; her boyfriend Maksim Sisoev, a foreign exchange student from Uzbekistan; and Elizabeth Finch, a Clinton native.

The Appeals Court rejected Teston’s argument that she took the drug to calm her nerves after the accident and it was only after the drug took effect that Teston was tested and found to be impaired.
