Journal Publishing buys weeklies

TUPELO, Miss. — Journal Publishing Company., publisher of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, has bought the Southern Sentinel in Ripley and the Southern Advocate in Ashland.

The Southern Sentinel, published twice weekly, has served Ripley and Tippah County since 1879. The Southern Advocate, published weekly, has served Ashland and Benton County since 1904.

Billy Crews, publisher and CEO of Journal Publishing, made the announcement Wednesday. Terms were not announced.

Besides the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Journal Publishing also publishes community newspapers in Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties.
