Sheriff’s Department, 65 drug arrests since January

PICAYUNE — Since Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison took office on Jan. 7, the department’s Narcotic Unit has made 65 felony narcotic arrests.

Chief Investigator Shane Tucker said in the past month four felony arrests have been made whose investigations have been closed. Two of those arrests arose from community complaints, one came from a traffic violation and the final suspect was found on the side of the road, smoking methamphetamine.

The most recent incident took place last Thursday and came out of a community complaint about narcotic activity. Tucker said when officers investigated the complaint, they found Jason Clark, 27, of 875 Bouie Rd., Carriere, to be in possession of about a pound and a half of marijuana. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

A traffic stop last Wednesday found Clay Shaw, 26, of 54 Shawtown Rd., Poplarville to be in possession of about two grams of methamphetamine and a .45-caliber handgun. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a fire arm while in possession of a controlled substance.

Another incident, on March 7, also came from community complaints and lead to felony charges against Tosha Williamson, 25, of 1236 Mississippi 26 East, Poplarville. The community complaints concerned narcotics activity, which lead investigators to the area. As investigators approached her house they spotted Williamson in transit and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, the officers found one and a half grams of methamphetamine on her. Williamson allegedly was transporting her six year-old daughter at the time, who was released to her father, Tucker said. Williamson was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The fourth incident took place on March 6, when a deputy noticed a vehicle parked on the side of McNeill-McHenry Rd. at 3:30 a.m. When the deputy approached the vehicle he found the driver of the vehicle, identified as Gary Wayne Odom, smoking methamphetamine. The officer searched the vehicle and found about a gram of the narcotic in the vehicle. Odom, 40, of 89 Connie Hariel Rd., Perkinston, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Tucker said those arrests were four of a total of 65 felony arrests made by the department’s Narcotic Unit in the three months since Allison took office. The sheriff’s department asks that anyone who knows of, or suspects, such activity to report it by calling the investigation division at 601-403-2515.
