PICAYUNE — A Picayune resident is facing possession of child pornography charges as the result of an investigation by the Mississippi Attorney General’s office.

According to a release from the AG’s office, 41-year-old Michael Alan Buckley of Picayune was arrested on Feb. 13, for one count of possession of child pornography. The arrest occurred following an undercover Internet investigation by the Louisiana State Police and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

“We have put extra resources into our cyber staff and their training over the past year and we are coming after anyone downloading child porn in our state,” said Attorney General Jim Hood in the release.

Buckley was booked into the Pearl River County Detention Center following his arrest by investigators with the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit with assistance from the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office. Buckley’s bond is set at $40,000 and if convicted he could be sentenced to 40 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections custody.

As with all cases, the defendant is considered not guilty until proven guilty in a court of law, the release states.
