PICAYUNE — TROPICAL WEATHER — Tropical Storm Igor formed Wednesday southeast of the Cape Verde Islands and was at 13.7N, 23.5W at 10 a.m. CDT with winds of 40 mph, moving west at 8 mph and should continue west with some increase in speed and some strengthening. Tropical Depression Hermine was drenching Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma with rains of four to six inches at 32.9N, 99.1W with winds of 25 mph and weakening moving north-northeast at 10 mph. The remnants of Gaston were southeast of the Dominican Republic moving west at 10 mph and it has a near zero chance of become a tropical cyclone as it moves west at 10 to 15 mph.

Picayune Police officers made a visit to the First Baptist Church of Picayune’s preschool class for their Community Helpers Safety Day. During the event the kids got to meet police officers and trigger lights and sirens in patrol vehicles.

Poplarville aldermen honor Holliday, get audit report briefing
The city board of aldermen honored former District Three Supervisor Hudson Holliday at its Tuesday night meeting.
Mayor Billy Spiers presented Holliday with a framed resolution of appreciation for his dedication and service to the city while serving as county supervisor.
