PICAYUNE —
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department personnel investigated two cases recently that ended in drug charges being pressed against two suspects.
The first case began on Nov. 16, after the department received information from the Picayune Police Department concerning 46-year-old James Scotty Jarrell possessing narcotics at his home located at 30 Albert Jarrell Rd. even though he was on probation, said Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier. Officers with the Police Department, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Department of Corrections headed to Jarrell’s home to conduct an inspection of the home, Saucier said.
Saucier said during the search the officers located some marijuana and drug paraphernalia that led the officers to believe Jarrell was either using or selling heroin.
Jarrell was taken into custody for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia and a hold was placed on Jarrell with MDOC, Saucier said.
Later that day, a traffic stop was conducted by narcotics investigators, Saucier said. The stop put detectives in contact with 31-year-old Nicholas J. Brassier of 126 Elouise St., Saucier said.
Saucier said the detectives asked for consent to search Brassier’s vehicle. He consented and the search turned up 11 small bags of marijuana that appeared to be packaged up for resale, Saucier said. The detectives placed Brassier under arrest on the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, Saucier said.

Fugitives go on the run in Picayune
A manhunt is underway as U.S. Marshals search for two fugitives out of Tennessee wanted on charges of aggravated burglary and resisting arrest.
