PICAYUNE —
Investigative work by Picayune Police Department narcotics officers resulted in a number of drug related arrests.
Charges ranged from possession of controlled substances to the sale of controlled substances, according to a department press release.
The first of the cases began on Jan. 11, when narcotic officers, acting on a tip of alleged narcotics sales at the Picayune Motel on U.S. Highway 11, garnered enough evidence through surveillance to obtain a search warrant, according to the release. Investigators found a plastic bag containing several prescription pills during the search, the release states.
Other evidence collected in the search included a digital scale, plastic bags commonly used in the sale of narcotics and a handgun with the serial number filed off according to the release. Officers also found two small children in the motel room, the release states.
Three adults were arrested on scene, 18-year-old Emily Malone of 52 Oliver Davis Rd., 18-year-old Brandon Culpepper of 2001 U.S. 11 North, Room #2 (the location of the search) and 19-year-old Jonathan Culpepper of 307 W. Sycamore Rd., according to the release.
The release states all three were charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by persons under 21 and two counts each of contributing to the neglect of a child. The two children are Malone’s, according to the release.
A second incident occurred on Jan. 18, when officers, responding to a tip, conducted surveillance at a local car wash, according to the release. A purchase of Roxicodone was made by an undercover informant at the car wash, prompting officers to move in and make two arrests, the release states. Both suspects, 46-year-old Shirley Arrington and 50-year-old Gregory Cook both of 2020 B. E. Canal St., attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle after seeing the officers, but were apprehended, the release states.
Both Arrington and Cook were charged with sale of a controlled substance, according to the release. Officers also recovered prescription bottles containing Alprazolam and Roxicodone, the release states.
On Jan. 23, narcotics officers conducted surveillance on a home at 221 Farrell St., Apt. B, based on community complaints, the press release states. Officers made contact with the resident, 28-year-old Jerome McDonald, and conducted a search where they found a number of small baggies containing synthetic THC and various paraphernalia associated with the packaging and sale of drugs, the release states. McDonald was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.
Capt. Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department said the synthetic THC recovered totaled less than an ounce.
“We are dedicated to take the drugs off of our streets,” said Chief Bryan Dawsey in the release.
