PICAYUNE —
An off duty police officer’s observations led to the arrest of two suspects believed to have been engaged in a drug transaction.
According to a release from the Picayune Police Department, the off duty officer saw the suspected transaction take place on Friday in the parking lot of an unnamed local business. The transaction appeared to involve a hand to hand exchange of drugs for money, according to the press release.
Officers with the department were contacted by the off duty officer and patrol vehicles were dispatched, making contact with 37-year-old Nathan Patrick Douglas of 31 Davis Dawsey Rd., and 24-year-old Sylvia Marie Hipps of 639 Derby White Sand Rd., Poplarville, the release states.
A subsequent search of Hipps and Douglas discovered methadone, Oxycodone and Adderall in their possession, the release states. Officers also found paraphernalia and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana during the search, according to the release.
Both suspects were taken to the Criminal Justice Center and questioned about the incident, the release states. The release states that after questioning, both Hipps and Douglas were charged with sale of a controlled substance, conspiracy to sell a controlled substance, three counts each of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
