PICAYUNE —
A tow truck driver died when a large oak tree fell on his truck during Hurricane Isaac.
The driver, 52-year-old Gregory A. Parker of Picayune, died just before 11 p.m. Wednesday as he was driving east on Goodyear Boulevard, according to a release from the Picayune Police Department.
Parker was driving a 1999 International wrecker truck on the boulevard when the tree uprooted, falling on the cab of the truck near the intersection of Goodyear and Norwood. The cab of the truck was crushed by the falling tree. Emergency responders extricated Parker from the cab, but he was pronounced on scene.
The release asks motorists to avoid driving around the city while the high winds and rain continue. Flooded roads, falling trees and other unseen hazards can be avoided by limiting driving during the storm.
It is unclear why Parker was driving on the boulevard at that time. Capt. Chad Dorn said Parker was not responding to a call from the Picayune Police Department at the time of the accident.

Who’s ready for The Big One on New Madrid fault?
It’s a bleak scenario. A massive earthquake along the New Madrid fault kills or injures 60,000 people in Tennessee. A quarter of a million people are homeless. The Memphis airport — the country’s biggest air terminal for packages — goes off-line. Major oil and gas pipelines across Tennessee rupture, causing shortages in the Northeast. In Missouri, another 15,000 people are hurt or dead. Cities and towns throughout the central United States lose power and water for months. Losses stack up to hundreds of billions of dollars.
