A report of shots fired off of Clarenda Street led to the arrest of 25-year-old Pharoh Davis.
Capt. Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department said officers responded at about 5:58 p.m. Sunday to the call of shots fired in the area of Clarenda Street and North Morris Avenue. Witnesses at the scene said two suspects were seen leaving the scene just after the shots, both in separate vehicles, Dorn said.
Officers patrolling the area found one of the vehicles described to have left the scene, seeing it pull into a driveway on East Eighth Street, the police captain said. Dorn said the officer drove up to the home and saw Davis get out of the vehicle and run to the west side of the home before throwing what appeared to be a gun into a wooded area.
Davis was taken into custody and searchers located a single-shot, 12 gauge shotgun that had the barrel sawed off, Dorn said. A search of Davis and his belongings uncovered a plastic bag containing 10 Xanax pills, the Picayune police captain said. Dorn said the discovery of the pills led to Davis being charged with possession of a controlled substance in addition to the crime of discharging a firearm within the city limits.
Dorn said the search for the second person described at the scene ended, since officers arrested a suspect who is believed to have fired the shots.
