CARRIERE — This old barn on Sones Chapel Road in Carriere looks like it has a face peering toward the road with its two small open windows and missing boards. At one time, it more than likely had what is called a saltbox roof where one slope is much longer than the other. Much like Cajun barns, which has its doors on the ends rather than the front or back, this one has open ends. While this barn is not a true Cajun barn since they tend to have a six to eight foot recessed entryway, a corncrib in the center and vertical clapboard siding rather than this horizontal siding, it is similar in that it also appears to have had a hayloft above the stalls.
