PICAYUNE —
Wal-Mart in Picayune reported three cases of shoplifting Monday.
The first incident was reported just before 9 a.m., said Picayune Police Capt. Chad Dorn. Apparently, the suspects had already left the store, he said.
Officers arrived to find the three suspects in the area, Dorn said. One of the juveniles was caught immediately, but two other suspects ran into the woods towards Home Depot, Dorn said.
A search of the area found a second juvenile hiding behind some wooden crates near Home Depot, but the third suspect was still missing, Dorn said. A perimeter was set up around the area, but officers did not find the third suspect.
Later, at about 10 a.m., officers saw the last suspect, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Davis of 123 Luther Davis Dr., near a home on East Canal Street, but again he fled into the woods, eluding capture, Dorn said.
At about 3 p.m., Davis’ luck ran out, Dorn said, and officers found him sitting on the porch of another home, but this time he was captured. All three suspects, including the two juveniles, 15 and 16-year-old males, were charged with shoplifting a pair of shoes each, with each pair of shoes being worth about $20, Dorn said. Davis also was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and disorderly conduct for failure to comply, Dorn said.
At 7:47 p.m., officers were called back to Wal-Mart in reference to another shoplifting incident, Dorn said. This time the store’s loss prevention officer had the suspects in custody, Dorn said. They were identified as 21-year-old Adam Michael Davis of 97 New County Rd., Wiggins, 19-year-old Kearstin Marie Thurkill of 119 Mickie Dr., Brandon and a 17-year-old female juvenile, Dorn said. The loss prevention officer advised police officers that the three suspects were seen entering the store and randomly picking items from the shelves, but instead of putting them into a buggy, they put the items into a black purse, the police captain said. Dorn said the items included cans of Red Bull, cheddar jalapenos, pencils, packs of boys socks and boxer briefs, glitter glue, scissors and sports bras, with all the items totaling about $74.
All three were charged with shoplifting, Dorn said.
Then about 15 minutes past 10 p.m., officers were again called to Wal-Mart in reference to another incident of shoplifting, Dorn said. He said the loss prevention officer had 19-year-old Shaquana Latrice Peavy of 813 S. Beech St., and a 17-year-old female juvenile, in custody. Again, the loss prevention officer reportedly had witnessed the two suspects select a number of items then attempt to leave the store without paying. The items included packs of pacifiers and an iPhone case, totaling $43 altogether, Dorn said.
Both suspects were charged with shoplifting, he said.
