PICAYUNE —
An overdose death found near a dumpster behind Fred’s in Picayune is the 17th overdose death so far this year.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said Friday’s overdose death of 37-year-old Billy Kyle Entrekin is the 17th death directly associated with a drug overdose so far this year. That number does not include suicides or accidents that could be associated with drug use.
According to reports filed at the Picayune Police Department, emergency personnel were called out to the area Friday just before 5 p.m. after two employees with Aaron’s found a body propped up on a dumpster while they were taking out the trash. The report states that as the employees opened the door it accidentally set the alarm off.
The fact that the man seen next to the dumpster did not move when the alarm sounded caused the employees to be concerned, and prompted them to call 911, the report states.
Firefighters with the Picayune Fire Department were the first medical personnel on scene and determined Entrekin had passed away. Turnage said an autopsy was conducted over the weekend that determined Entrekin, of 503 Mike Lumpkin Rd., had died due to a heroin overdose.
Deputy Chief Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department said an investigation by their department found a syringe and a small amount of heroin on Entrekin’s person.
Autopsy results and lividity marks show Entrekin was still breathing when he was either propped up by another, unknown person or persons or sat himself down next to the dumpster. Dorn said while the case is still under investigation, it is currently unclear if Entrekin was left at the dumpster by others or had walked by himself to the dumpster where he was found.
