PICAYUNE —
The ex-police officer from Picayune who was recently arrested in a Kentucky town for assaulting his wife now faces local misdemeanor embezzlement charges.
Picayune Deputy Police Chief Chad Dorn said at the time of Michael R. Odom’s resignation from the department in May of this year he was asked to return two badges, which he claimed he was unable to locate.
According to a previous story in the Picayune Item, Odom was arrested by the Elizabethtown, Ky., Police Department on Monday for allegedly assaulting his wife with a tower fan and a handgun before putting the gun to her head and pulling the trigger several times. Shots were not fired during the incident, but Odom’s wife suffered a broken nose and lacerations to her face from the assault, the story states.
Dorn said while the Elizabethtown police officers were working the assault scene at the home where 42-year-old Odom and his wife were living, the officers located the two badges Odom claimed not to have, along with a Picayune Police Department identification.
Odom will not be extradited for the local misdemeanor embezzlement charges, Dorn said. However, if Odom is located within the state of Mississippi a hold on him could be placed and then he could be extradited back to Picayune, Dorn said.
