A youth football coach in Picayune has been charged with possession of a  controlled substance with intent to distribute.

The Picayune Police Department arrested Brant Peddy, 38, of 700 Glenwood St., Monday night following a search of his residence, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief of police.

While working an operation, officers received information from a confidential source regarding “a large amount of steroids located at Peddy’s address and that they were being sold,” Magri said.

The Narcotics Division secured a search warrant and the warrant was served around 6:15 p.m. at the residence on Glenwood Street, he said.

“Conducting the search, officers located 11 vials of a brown, liquid substance labeled Tren-200 milligrams and one vial of a white, liquid substance labeled Stan-50,” Magri said.

Multiple used and unused individually packaged syringes were found in different areas of the residence along with a bag of cotton balls and rubbing alcohol, said Magri.

“Eight small, peach colored pills identified as Alprazolam” were found in the residence, Magri said, and he said, “four more were later located in a bottle.”

As officers were executing the search warrant, “Peddy was observed approaching the residence in a silver Chevrolet Siverado,” Magri said. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Glenwood Street and Fourth Avenue.

“Making contact with Peddy, he was placed into custody and transported to the Criminal Justice Center,” Magri said. More than $600 was seized from inside the vehicle, he said.

Peddy was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, said Magri.

“Peddy appeared before a judge and his bond was set at $60,000,” he said. He posted bail and was released Thursday, Magri said.

In August, Peddy stood before city council members to be recognized as vice president of football for the Picayune Youth Athletic Association (PYAA) Board.

PYAA President Allen Hickman did not want to comment on the issue but did say on Friday that Peddy “no longer has a position on the board.” The status of his board dismissal was confirmed by City Operations Director Harvey Miller as well.  

Peddy is also a football coach for a Mississippi Youth Football 9-10 year-old league, which is not affiliated with PYAA. PYAA Vice President Eli Ouder said he was not in a position to answer questions regarding Peddy.
