The live-in girlfriend of a local man has been charged with his murder.
The investigation conducted by the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation showed 40-year-old Alina Lamey shot her 33-year-old live-in boyfriend, Nickoles Ray Sullivan. Next of kin have now been notified of his death.
Saturday night at about 10, emergency responders received a call from Lamey that Sullivan had been shot near their home located at 56 B. Burgetown Rd., said Pearl River County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier. Lamey said the two were sitting by a campfire when Sullivan was shot by an unseen shooter. After being shot he stumbled to the steps of his home before collapsing and succumbing to his wound.
Deputies responded to find the victim dead in the front yard of his home. Investigators assessed the scene and decided to have the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit assist in the investigation, Saucier said. The MBI's assistance was deemed necessary due to the distance Sullivan walked after being shot, creating a large crime scene.
So far the investigation shows the victim was shot with a small caliber round, but Saucier declined to elaborate on what type of gun was used. Saucier said the investigators believe they have recovered the gun used to commit the crime.
By 10 a.m. Sunday investigators had enough evidence to arrest Lamey for the murder of Sullivan, Saucier said.
An autopsy is set for Monday and the investigation is ongoing.
