PICAYUNE — 13-year-old Hannah Walker is an 8th grade student, member of Picayune Jr. High Pride of the Tide Dance Team and can be seen starring in the role of Clara in this year’s 31st annual production of Delta Festival Ballet’s presentation of “The Nutcracker,” at the Northshore Harbor Center - Slidell, on Saturday, December 1st at 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 2nd at 2 p.m.

It is the most lavish production the company does, with a cast of over 150 dancers, elaborate sets, beautiful costumes, superb dancing by the company’s professional artists and performed with live accompaniment by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

Her grandfather, Ray Mitchell, says, “She is the youngest performer ever selected for this role by the producers, Giacobbe Academy of Dance, where she has taken ballet for the last three years. This is her third year to perform in ‘The Nutcracker.’

“Some of the performers are members of the New York Ballet Company and the Russian International Ballet Company. My wife and I have attended two performances, and it is one of the best we've seen.”
