PICAYUNE —
The Senior Center of Picayune hosted 25 elementary students from Nicholson Elementary last Friday, for bingo games and recognition.
Senior Center Director Darlene Adams, said, “We are excited about this new collaboration with the Picayune School District. We are looking for ways for our seniors and the center to give back to the community and through one of our Community Business Advisory Council meetings, Dean Shaw and Vera Beech, who serve on the council shared the problem with some of the younger students missing school.
“Through the council we came up with a “Game Day” incentive for children with perfect attendance. We will be doing this once a month, starting with the Nicholson Elementary School.”
The Nicholson Students were treated to a series of BINGO games and were assisted by members of the Senior Center. There was excitement from both groups as students tried to reach BINGO first. There were four BINGO winners and one Black Out winner who received McDonalds gift cards; but all students got things to take home and certificates for their perfect attendance.
Picayune School Superintendent Dean Shaw, said, “We appreciate the Senior Center for having our students from Nicholson Elementary. This is such a wonderful reward for our students. I hope we can continue to do this. Our students are full of excitement and smiles.
