PICAYUNE —
In addition to the wonderful shop and vendor offerings, this year’s Picayune Main Street Fall Street Fair will have three new major events to attract new visitors to Picayune.
“We will be incorporating a beauty pageant and a vocal competition in the Fall Street Fair line up,” said Fall Street Fair Chair Ina Legg.
The Miss Street Fair Pageant will be held at the Moses Cook Masonic Lodge on West Canal.
There are contestant categories for: Baby Miss Street Fair— 0 to 11 months; Tot Miss Street Fair — over 11 months to 2 years; Mini Miss Street Fair— 3 to 5 years; Little Miss Street Fair— 6 to 8 years; Junior Miss Street Fair— 9 to 12 years; Teen Miss Street Fair— 13 to 15 years and Miss 2013 Street Fair— 16 to 19 years of age.
Winners will be crowned and given a sash. Scholarships will be awarded for Miss 2013 Street Fair and also for: Best Interview, Most Poised, Most Photogenic, 2nd Alternate and 1st Alternate.
Pageant winners will be presented onstage Sunday and will also appear at the 2013 Picayune Main Street, Inc. Spring Street Fair.
In addition to the pageant, a vocal contest will be held. “Krumbs Krunked Up” is a vocal competition which will have three judges for age groups of: 4 to 8 years; 9 to 14 years and 15 to 24 years of age. There will be three different prize categories for each group and an overall People’s Choice Award. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will perform the following day onstage at the Street Fair.
Also, on Saturday, the Exchange Club of Picayune will host a Chili Cookoff. The Cookoff will be held on the corner of West Canal and Hwy 11.
Event Chair Gaye Matthews said that many teams are confirmed and they are all looking forward to a stiff, friendly competition. Matthews said everyone is a winner because proceeds go right back into the local community through Exchange Club programs.
As in years past, there will be an euro bungie, inflatable slides and jumps and a mechanical bull for the kids and kids at heart. Train rides will be offered for a small fee. The Boulevard Cruisers will be showing off their classic cars and trucks on Saturday and there will be a motorcycle show will on Sunday.
